I had the pleasure of knitting another one of Kay Jones’ sock patterns while we were on a family vacation recently. Wow, do I love her patterns. She has a way of making your knitting so enjoyable, relaxing and simple while creating a stunning outcome at the same time. That is not a simple feat in designing. With Kay’s permission to create a kit around her lovely pattern, we have a new and outstanding kit for you today. And, don’t forget that summer is the best time to knit socks. So here are some details for you for the Rumple Socks Kits by Kay Jones.
The Rumple Socks pattern was inspired when the designer, Kay Jones, and her daughter were watching the show “Once Upon a Time” which featured Rumplestiltskin. Old Rumple quickly became her daughter's favorite character. Kay used a self-dyed skein of golden yarn for her sample pair of socks in the spirit of spinning straw into gold and the rumpled look of the character, but these socks look great in any color, and the beautifully textured fabric looks like pure gold, in the end, using our squishy Home Fingering Weight.
Here’s a description from Kay Jones:
"The Rumple Socks feature a super fun and squishy texture pattern, that brings to mind the slightly crazy Rumple hair! The stitch pattern is relaxing to knit and very intuitive, making it easy to read your knitting.
I have included 2 different heel options - a traditional heel flap and gusset and also my Butterfly Heel. The Butterfly Heel is a mock short row heel that is worked as you knit the sock. The pattern contains a video tutorial showing the technique for this.
The pattern comes in 3 sizes - Small (56 sts), Medium (64 sts) and Large (72 sts). The texture pattern is both written and charted. The instructions are written for magic loop but other methods can of course be used.”
I used my trusty double-pointed needles, and I used the heel flap and gusset option for the heel. I actually used my old free pattern How I Make My Socks version for the heel and toe (only because I have it memorized and I was on vacation!), but Kay offers options in the pattern from which to choose, as well.
I loved making these rhythmic and gorgeously squishy socks. The wool combined with the textured stitch pattern all makes for the coziest and comfiest pair of socks ever. They literally flew off my needles. I think you’ll feel the same way.
