Construction Notes

The Roger cardigan is knit from the top-down. The body, front and back are worked in a broken rib texture (one row is simply all knit, followed by a knit 2, purl 2 row) which is just enough to keep things interesting in a fun way. The slight A-line shape of the body is achieved by simply going up a needle size for the lower body.

Set-In Pockets
The pocket tops are knit ahead of time and set aside to be joined in later for set-in pockets. This type of pocket construction is very effective and yields a lovely and smooth pocket. Nell offers instructions for both a fabric-lined pocket option or a knit pocket lining option. I knit my pockets in stripes for a bit of a surprise. The kit includes a few minis in different colors to use for the pocket lining if you so choose!

The sleeves, in which the stitches are placed back on the needles after the body is done, are worked in a smooth stockinette stitch in the round ending with the same broken rib for the cuff.

Collar and Button Bands
The collar is picked and knit on and it includes short rows so the back of the neck is raised slightly. Then the button bands are picked up and added on last.

Nell knit her Roger in the Home Worsted Weight in the Field colorway. The photos in the Field colorway have been provided by NellKnits.

My Roger is knit in size Medium in the Home Worsted Weight in the Red Flannel colorway.

The sizing measurements fit as is listed in the pattern information. For example, the medium size has a 40-inch bust measurement. I usually knit a size 36-inch bust measurement for a more fitted garment. The Roger cardigan is made with positive ease for a comfy looser fit. So my size medium has about 4-inches of positive ease.
