Dawn is my favorite time of the day, the crack of dawn. It’s usually a pretty peaceful time which I love. The theme of the new issue of Making Magazine is Dawn, a tribute to the soft feeling and colors of a new day. I decided to go the outdoorsy weather route with my contribution by bringing in a subdued rainbow with fluffy clouds, a gentle raindrop or two, and a friendly sun that’s making it all happen. It turned into a brand new Charm Set. I have done a bunch of charm sets including veggies, a couple of different holiday-themed sets, sweaters, spring novelties, a fall harvest, and even long johns.
The Dawn Charm Set, like the others, can be made into a garland or the projects can be individual ornaments or even a pocket charm for a loved one you might know. The projects are all cleverly seamless in construction.
We have pulled together some very sweet Dawn Charm Set Kits for you today with our springy 2-ply Woolens sport weight yarn. You’ll get five skeins in the kit. The colors I’ve selected are filled with an airy spring-like touch, Door County (cherry red), Thulian (dusty heathered pink), Pound Cake (buttery yellow), Snowbound (creamy white), and Greenland (fresh minty green).
You’ll get enough yarn in the kit to make a garland just like mine, meaning several of each of the sun, rainbow, and raindrop. We are providing black thread and three sets of safety eyes to finish off the suns, and white baker’s twine to make your charms into a garland if you like.
Another adorable part of our new kit is the Rainbow Scissor Slips by Kata Golda or Alison Kaplan. These sweet hand-stitched wool felt scissor slips are custom-made to fit the tiny snips from Merchant & Mills. These snips come all the way from Rye, England. These scissors are the absolute best. The slips are a work of art. Alison does a beautiful job, as always, and I am such a fan. She’s embroidered a tiny rainbow, cloud, and raindrop on each scissor cozy. They are all different colors and combinations and they are all equally exquisite. The scissor slips are made up of too many wool felt combinations to list so we will pick out the perfect one just for you! The Rainbow Scissor Slips are an optional add-on with your kit purchase.
I think you’ll love our new Dawn Charm Set Kits! I can’t wait to see what you make.
IMPORTANT Pattern Note: The pattern is found only in the Making No. 11 / Dawn issue of the magazine, just released today. The pattern is NOT included in the kit, you’ll need the magazine for the pattern. The magazine is an optional add-on with your kit purchase. The pattern will be available for individual purchase about six months from now.
Making No. 11 / Dawn is just a beautiful collection for this spring and summer ahead. There are projects like dresses, slippers, coasters, pillows, and quilt patterns to sew and shawls, socks and sweaters to knit, and patches to embroider and more. It’s gorgeous, all of it. These magazines are like lovely books chock-full of inspirational projects to make. I am honored to be a small part of this publication.
