I love Jessica McDonald’s knitting. You might remember that we recently featured Jessica’s super-popular My Fletching sweater design as a kit, and we still have them available in the shop. Click here for the sweater kits! And you also might remember that I knit a tiny Fletching sweater for my grandson last winter. It’s adorable. The Fletching series is turning out to be one of Jessica’s most beloved pattern collections with good reason.

I knew right when I saw the new Fletching Socks pop up on Jessica’s Instagram that I would be casting on a pair of my own. I love that Jessica loves our Barrett Wool Co. yarn. She knit her My Fletching sample in our Woolens sport weight yarn and then used the leftovers for the socks. Her patterns are so well-written, clear, and concise. I highly recommend them.

Jessica has given us express permission to create a kit with her design, and permission to use her beautiful photos. Thank you, Jessica. We are so lucky. The pattern is an Easy Skill Level and four tutorial links are included in the pattern.

Here’s what Jessica has to say directly:

"After knitting My Fletching, I decided to use the leftover yarn to make a pair of matching socks. The simple colorwork motif works very well for socks because it is very easy to knit and has very short floats. The short floats help keep the leg portion of the sock a bit more flexible so you have a more comfortable fit.

The Fletching Socks would be perfect for your first socks and your first colorwork project. With six sizes available (baby through adult large) you can knit a pair for anyone in your family.

The Fletching Socks are knit from the cuff down with a heel flap and gusset construction.”

Here’s what I have to say about the Fletching socks, you should knit up a pair for yourself or for someone you love. The sport weight Woolens is a dreamy rustic yarn that is just lovely to knit and it’s perfect for a quick pair of socks. On a US size 2 needle with a slightly heavier-weight yarn, the socks will fly off your needles. I started my first sock yesterday and I finished it today, and I did all sorts of other things in between. It goes so fast. I only have one sock done but I’m casting on the second one as soon as I finish this newsletter. What a fun knit.

Another quick note, if you normally knit a 64-stitch sock as I do in fingering weight, I always cast on 56 stitches for sport weight socks on a US size 2 needle. This is the Adult Medium size in the Fletching Socks pattern.

And one last thing, I couldn’t resist adding a hot pink toe to my chartreuse sock. I love it so much. Our new Woolens colorway Brink (bright pink) is the most beautiful hot pink I’ve ever seen and it goes so well with the main color Pear. You have plenty of the contrast color yarn in the kit to add in a contrasting heel or toe if you’d like. I also just did a simple long-tail cast-on to start the sock.

Included in the Fletching Socks Kit:

* Enough of our Woolens yarn to make one pair of socks in your selected size. Choose between two size options baby to child (2 skeins total), or adult small to large (3 skeins total). The pattern provides instructions for six sizes.
