My lovely friend Paula Emons-Fuessle of The Knitting Pipeline podcast, retreats and YouTube Channel, many of you knew her well, recently passed away from ovarian cancer. Since then I’ve knit up a couple of her shawls to purposely spend time thinking about her and her wonderful life. She has had such an impact on me in so many ways.

Just a few weeks ago I finished her pattern called the Wild Goose Shawlette and it is such a comforting knit and wearing it is even better. I just love everything about this shawl. The shawl is garter stitch with a simple wide border with eyelets and rib. It’s so easy and fun, I can’t even tell you how much I enjoyed this pattern. Paula was a genius at designing beautiful, simple and enjoyable shawls. She really is my favorite shawl designer. I think you might enjoy making one, too.

I was trying to figure out a good way to pay tribute to Paula and nothing seems quite good enough, but if you’d like to knit a Wild Goose Shawlette like mine (you will love it!) we have pulled together some simple kits out of our Woolens yarn. I knit my shawl in the Vine colorway in the Woolens, which is a sweet sport weight 2-ply woolen spun yarn. The yarn knits up and blocks beautifully for this shawl. It is a treasure.

We will donate a portion of the sales from each kit to Paula’s doctor, Dr. Fuh, who is conducting ovarian cancer research at the Washington University Hospital in St. Louis. We made an earlier donation to Dr. Fuh’s research program and would like to add to it. The donation from the kits will be part of the ongoing BWC Quarterly Donation Program (last quarter’s donation is discussed below), and we will add in our own additional funds when we donate.

About the Kit:
The Wild Goose Shawlette Kit includes enough yarn to make one shawl. The pattern is originally written for fingering weight yarn but the Woolens is a sport weight yarn. I used a US size 7/4.5mm needle and it worked out great! We will put it in a printed cotton project bag with a tag and we will throw in a tin of stitch markers at no additional cost. The pattern is NOT included in the kit. Please purchase the pattern directly from Paula’s family.

If you partake, I’d love to see your finished or in-progress shawl. Tag me or BWC on Instagram anytime.
