From Susan:
Kirsten Kapur has done it again! Barrett Wool Co. is proud to present, Sonora! With bold slip-stitch bands of diamonds running across the long, drapey asymmetrical triangle-shaped shawl and paired with simple garter stitch blocks, the Sonora shawl is nothing short of stunning.

I love everything about this cozy, oversized shawl, the drape, the textures, the simple lace border, the two-color contrast, the practicality of it… everything! Kirsten smoothly excels at walking that fine line of just the right amount complexity, which keeps interest high as you work, combined with a bold dose of simplicity, which is what every knitter seeks. She succeeds on all levels with Sonora.

See those bands of diamonds? Those look complicated, but you are only using one color at a time. The slip stitches give it the appearance of a more complicated colorwork stitch pattern. I love that kind of trickery. The lace on the border is done in garter stitch, not a purl stitch is found in the entire shawl.

~ Enjoy!

Construction Notes from the designer, Kirsten Kapur:
This two-color shawl begins with only a few stitches and increases in width to form an asymmetrical triangle. Each right side row increases the overall stitch count by 1 stitch.

Bands of garter stitch are alternated with bands of a simple slipped stitch pattern. The border is worked in a garter lace pattern.

Although this is a shawl, it is important to obtain gauge in order to avoid running out of yarn. Adjust needle size as necessary to obtain gauge. The gauge given in the pattern is a blocked gauge.
