Please read before you start! Very Important Information about Yarn Amounts Needed:
These mittens can be made with either 1 or 2 skeins. The samples shown in the photos use 2 skeins and you will have plenty of yarn with leftovers. I recommend having 2 skeins, if possible, you can then alter the lengths as needed and not worry about running out. Also, with your leftovers from a couple of pairs you can then make another fun scrappy pair.
However, the yarn is pricey so if you want to try using 1 skein to make a pair of mittens, it is possible. I have made it with one skein by shortening the cuff, hand and thumb. You can get by with 1 skein but it will be very close to using every last inch of the yarn. The pair I originally made on Instagram weighed 98 grams out of a 100 gram skein with inches leftover. I recommend weighing the skein to start and along the way to use only 1/2 per mitten. In fact, you could even divide the skein into two equal balls by weighing the yarn when winding to ensure you’ll have enough for each mitten. You will use nearly every last inch!
Important Pattern and Yarn Use Instructions The pattern is written for two skeins with one skein tips provided. Two skein knitters just ignore all One Skein Tips, pass them by and carry on. One skein knitters, please read through the pattern and review all of the One Skein Tips so you know where you will be modifying slightly to save yarn.
As for yarn use, due to the unpredictability of this unique handspun yarn (each skein varies a lot) there may be variations in the amounts used. OR if there is any variation in your gauge your results with yarn amounts will vary. I’m trying to gently warn you that you may have to make even more alterations to my One Skein Tip recommendations to get one skein to make two mittens. It can be done but it may take some further modifications. Please be aware of this.
The pattern is written for using 2 skeins of the Daisy Chain or Friendship Bracelet (discontinued) yarn. Again, I note along the way where to reduce the rounds to use only 1 skein with my One Skein Tips.
