Today is a unique day for Barrett Wool Co. We only occasionally call in other designers or yarns so when we do you know it’s going to be good. Awhile ago one of my favorite knitters, Jen Geigley (go follow her!), shared a project bag made by her friend. I was drawn to the bag and searched out more information on the maker and if there were any more available. I found the maker Of June on Instagram (go follow her!) and I purchased several bags from the small collection on her website. I fell in love. Each bag is unique, soft, warm, charming, imbued with love and purpose. Janine, the creator, uses off cut fabrics from small and slow fashion brands to create her bags. If you follow my quilting at all you’ll know that I love this. Well, I’ll just let her introduce herself below.
From Janine:
"Of June is a contemporary design studio founded by Janine Bajalia, currently based in Spartanburg, South Carolina. Janine creates one of a kind project bags and accessories using reclaimed off cut fabrics from slow fashion brands - giving these beautiful fabrics a second life and keeping them out of landfills.
Inspired by her love of knitting and travel, Janine's soft structured bags feature unique patchwork designs, ideal for on the go makers. Each piece is thoughtfully made, aligning with a vision of sustainability and slow making. When you shop Of June, you're supporting a movement - one that values intention, creativity and care.”
I contacted Janine last spring to see if we could collaborate to bring some of her creative, sustainable work to you through Barrett Wool Co. She said yes! I asked her to create whatever bags she wanted as far as fabrics, and patchwork styles. She went to town.
All of the bags are the same size, with a soft natural wool back, a creamy cotton fabric inside lining, a cord drawstring, and a one-of-a-kind patchwork front. All of the fabric for the patchwork on these bags is from Not Perfect Linen, favorite company of mine. I wear their dresses every week, in fact I have one on right now as I write. Click here to find the Not Perfect Linen on Instagram.
You’ll want to get one of these custom project bags from Of June. I hope to do more projects with her in the future if she’ll have us. She is a dream collaborator.
The bags are available individually for purchase OR the bags are available with our brand new Cozy Waffle Socks Kits and you’ll get a bundle deal with a discount.
I hope you can feel the love and warmth these bags bring to the world.
