Mini-Moose Instructions

Mini-Moose by Susan B. Anderson

Use the original Moose pattern which includes the Pine Sweater, and the original Hoodie Cardigan pattern in the Moose: The Winter Set pattern. Both of these patterns come with the kit as digital downloads. I made no modifications to the patterns other than a couple of color changes. I will list all of the information you need to miniaturize the moose ensemble below.

You are using the exact same original patterns as is! I didn’t change anything in the written patterns to make the mini version.

You’ll change the needle size, the yarn weight and a few colors and again, follow the exact same patterns as originally written.

Measurement: 6-inches tall when seated and measured to the tallest point of the antler.

Yarn: Home Fingering Weight by Barrett Wool Co. (370 yards; 100 grams), in the following colorways, Bear, Big Woods, Acorn, Red Flannel.

The Moose uses the Bear and Acorn. The Pine Sweater uses the Big Woods, Acorn and Bear. The Hoodie Cardigan uses the Red Flannel.

Needles:

Moose:

US size 2/2.75mm, set of double-pointed needles or size to obtain gauge

Pine Sweater:

US size 3/3.25mm set of double-pointed needles or size to obtain gauge

Hoodie Cardigan:

US size 3/3.25mm set of double-pointed needles or size to obtain gauge

Gauge:

Moose: 7.5 sts per inch in stockinette stitch

Pine Sweater and Hoodie Cardigan: 7 sts per inch in stockinette stitch

Materials:

Three 1/2-inch buttons

Needle and thread to sew buttons to cardigan

Fiberfill

Poly pellets (optional and considered a choking hazard for small children)

5mm safety eyes included with the kit (considered a choking hazard for small children)

General Notes:

  • Knit the entire Moose in Bear (brown) only. You won’t be switching colors for the feet and hands.
  • Knit the entire Hoodie Cardigan in Red Flannel only. I didn’t add a pocket on the sample. I made the pom using all four colors held together using the smallest size Clover pom maker.

  • Susan, since the mini-moose kit is sold out, I would like to purchase just the pattern. Not sure how to do that.
