French Knot Video Tutorial

Skating Hat

We just posted a new video tutorial to the Barrett Wool Co. YouTube Channel. In the video I share how to do the French Knots on the lovely Skating Hats worn in the photo here. The pattern includes a worsted weight (on the right) and a fingering weight version (on the left) of the hat and it is a simple and fun stranded colorwork pattern.

Click here to see all of the details on the Skating Hat or to purchase the pattern!

The Home Fingering Weight hat is knit in the colors: Morning Sky, Picket Fence, Peppercorn and Bluff. The French Knots are in Red Flannel.

The Home Worsted Weight hat is knit in the colors: Ellie Gray, and Pepin. The French Knots are in Red Flannel and Field.

Of course, you could choose any two contrasting colors and your hat would look fantastic!

Skating Hat

I learned a great trick for the French Knot from one of my favorite embroidery artists, Rebecca Ringquist and I share this trick in the video. It's all about how you hold the thread or yarn after you wrap it around the needle. The tip from Rebecca literally changed my French knot life and I hope it will change yours, too!

French Knots are the perfect embellishment for so many projects. I use them all of the time for toy-knitting and other embroidery projects. It's a good skill to have in your back pocket. And I think they really add a great finishing touch for the Skating Hat.

Enjoy the video and thanks for an amazing week here at Barrett Wool Co.
